Neighborhood Food Tours in Madrid

Make every bite count! We believe that the best way to get to know a city is by walking its streets and eating its incredible food. Let us show you around one of Madrid’s most foodie neighborhoods and introduce you to the inspiring people who keep the city’s culinary traditions alive.

Each of our Madrid food tours supports locally owned bars, restaurants and markets that showcase the unique culture of the city. Come walk and eat with us!

Why the Malasaña Neighborhood

The soul of Madrid is in its neighborhoods. Just minutes from the city center, Malasaña is a real slice of Spanish life! Trendy cafés sit next to century-old bars. Beautiful tile-and-iron balconies overlook cobblestone streets. Malasaña is the perfect neighborhood to see both historic and modern Madrid sitting side by side.

Over the past 10 years, we’ve cultivated great relationships with the neighborhood’s best bars, restaurants, shops and markets so you get  unprecedented access to the people and stories behind these Madrid institutions. Meet Carlos the market chef, let Jesus show you the art of the aperitivo, get cheese tips from Marcelo aka Señor Cheese and taste hand-cut Iberian ham from José.

If you travel for food, our experiences are designed for you!

FAQs

  • The best food tour in Madrid is one that combines authentic flavors with local knowledge. At Walk and Eat Spain, our tours are led by passionate guides who take you beyond the well-known spots to discover traditional markets, family-run eateries, and hidden tapas bars. You’ll eat where Madrileños eat and meet the people keeping Madrid’s food traditions alive.

  • Absolutely! Madrid’s food culture is a huge part of the city’s identity. A food tour gives you insider access to dishes, stories, and traditions you might miss on your own — all while exploring the city’s beautiful neighborhoods.

While a tapas tour may be a bit pricier than dinner at a single restaurant, our tours unlock the unwritten rules of doing tapas in Madrid so you’ll know how and where to eat for the rest of your trip. Our food tours also allow you to try a wide variety of dishes and drinks. For example, our De Tapas in Malasaña: Evening Wine and Tapas Tour includes 5 unique Spanish drinks as well as 9 different tapas!

  • Yes! We work closely with our restaurant partners and chefs to ensure that our tours are safe and delicious for everyone! All of our tours are perfectly adaptable to guests following vegetarian, gluten-free, pork-free and/or shellfish-free diets. Our tours are also suitable for guests with celiac disease as we have created specific protocols to avoid cross-contamination on each tour.

If you follow a vegan diet, we have two experiences that are best adaptable for vegan guests:

    1. De Mercados: Neighborhood Market and Food Tour which is available as a public tour where you’ll join up to a maximum of 8 guests.

    2. De Historia in La Latina: Madrid Paella, History and Tapas Tour which features an incredible vegan paella as well as tastings of seasonal produce in a century-old market and one of the most famous vegan tapas in Madrid! This experience is available only as a private tour.

When booking your tour, there is a required question asking if you have any dietary restrictions. Please just let us know your preferences and any food allergies and we will adapt the menu as needed!

  • We understand that travel plans can change. Public tours can be rescheduled or refunded with at least 24 hours’ notice. For private tours, cancellations made two weeks in advance receive a full refund, with partial refunds available up to 24 hours before the tour. Please see our Cancellation Policy page for full details.
