FAQs

  • We specialize in market and tapas tours that go beyond the guide book (or social media post!). Our guides introduce you to bustling, traditional markets and small, neighborhood tapas bars where locals actually eat.

What makes us unique is the personal connection: you’ll not only taste the best bites in Madrid, but also meet the people behind the food — market vendors, chefs, winemakers and bartenders —  who bring the city’s flavors to life.

We also believe strongly in ethical tourism. To us that means making sure that every euro spent on our tours stays in the local economy. That starts by being a company registered in Spain! We are fully owned, operated and registered here in Madrid meaning we pay both sales taxes and a variety of other types of taxes here locally. We pay our guides fairly and in accordance with all Spanish labor laws. We only work with restaurants, bars and market stalls that are locally owned and operated to make sure that our tours preserve local flavors and culture.

We love Madrid! And we want to make sure our city stays unique. While tourism can often change cities, we believe that when done sustainably, it can support local culture rather than diminish it. Through strong partnerships with the people of each neighborhood, we aim to show guests to our city just how magical it is without disrupting or changing that magic!

  • Yes! Food is at the heart of Madrid’s culture, and a tour with Walk and Eat is one of the best ways to experience it. We make sure you try the city’s classic dishes while also discovering local favorites you might not find on your own. Along the way, you’ll learn the history and stories that make Madrid’s food culture so special.

  • Absolutely! We strongly believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the spectacular food of Madrid, no matter your dietary restrictions!

We work closely with our restaurant partners to design menus for every guest. Whether it is an off-menu vegetarian dish featuring the season’s best produce or a strict cross-contamination protocol to make our tapas tour as safe as possible for celiac guests, we work diligently to craft menus that are delicious (and safe!) for all travelers.  Just let us know in advance when you book so we can plan accordingly.

  • Public tours can be canceled or rescheduled up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Private tours have flexible options depending on how far in advance you cancel. Please see our Cancellation Policy page for full details.

  • A lot! On both our tapas and market tours, you’ll sample multiple dishes and drinks — enough to equal a full meal (and usually more). As we always say, come hungry!

  • Yes! You’ll enjoy Spanish drinks such as wine, beer or Spanish vermouth alongside your tastings. Non-alcoholic options are always available for those who prefer them.

  • Absolutely. Families are welcome, and we’re happy to adapt tastings and drinks for younger guests.

Private tours are especially good for families, since we can set the pace and stops to suit everyone. If you’d prefer to join a public tour and meet other travelers, our De Mercados: Neighborhood Market and Food Tour is a great option for families with children.

  • Yes. All of our experiences are walking tours designed to explore Madrid’s neighborhoods on foot. Distances are short, the pace is relaxed, and there are plenty of breaks for food and conversation.

  • Most tours last about 3–4 hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy a full meal’s worth of food while exploring the city. Private tours can be customized to be shorter or longer depending on your group’s needs.

  • Yes. Our private tours are fully customized experiences where you and your group set the pace. They’re perfect if you’d like a more intimate evening, want to focus on certain neighborhoods, or have dietary requirements that you'd like to tailor the tastings around.

  • If you’re running late, please call us so we can try to adjust reservations with our partners. Our emergency contact number is +34 912 15 82 81.

On public tours, your guide will wait at the meeting point for 10 minutes before heading to the first stop. For private tours, we will wait up to 30 minutes. After that we may need to modify the experience since our favorite neighborhood spots are often small and very popular.

  • Tips are never required, but they are a great way to thank your guide if you enjoyed your experience!

  • Yes! Madrid is a very walkable city, and our tours are designed around compact neighborhoods with plenty of character. You’ll be walking short distances between food stops at a relaxed pace.

  • Comfortable shoes are the most important thing. Jeans are perfectly fine in Madrid and you’ll see people wearing them everywhere, from casual cafés to lively tapas bars.

  • We recommend booking as soon as your plans are set, since our groups are small and space is limited. Private tours should ideally be booked at least a month in advance so we can secure reservations at our favorite local spots.

  • Definitely. Many solo travelers join Walk and Eat tours and enjoy sharing food and conversation with fellow guests. Tapas culture is social by nature, so you’ll feel right at home. As most dishes are meant to be shared in Madrid, food tours are ideal ways for solo travelers to taste a wide variety of dishes!

  • We offer both small group public tours where you’ll join other travelers and private tours that are designed for just your group or family.  The maximum group size on all of our public experiences is 8 guests. We keep our groups smaller than any other food or tapas tour in Madrid to make sure you get a truly authentic experience in the most popular tapas bars and markets in the neighborhood!

We also offer private tours which are designed specifically for couples, families or teams! If you are interested in a private tour or if your group is larger than 8 people, please get in touch.
