Learn how (and why!) Madrid was founded as you walk the streets that have been around since the city was first formed. Over the course of the day you’ll discover how the tiny fortress of Madrid became the capital of an empire and then evolved into the city we know and love today.
But you won’t just see Madrid’s history, you’ll taste it as well! Kick off the day with a traditional aperitivo at the neighborhood market. Meet the market vendors and discover the cultures and conquests that shaped Spanish cuisine.
Then stroll over to an iconic tapas bar as you learn not only how to eat tapas but how to do tapas! Duck into this bustling tapas bar, meet the passionate people behind each bite and discover the do’s and don’ts of tapas culture.
Throughout the day you’ll see many of Madrid’s most iconic sights like Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Villa, Cebada Market, the original 12th century city walls, Cava Baja and the San Andrés Church where Madrid’s patron saint is buried.
You’ll also become a part of the historic La Latina neighborhood. You’ll taste its authentic flavors and walk the cobblestone streets where nearly 1,000 years of history have shaped Madrid into the city it is today.
