Churrería Madrid 1883 is the oldest churro shop in the Malasaña neighborhood and is run by third and fourth-generation churros makers. The churros are hot and crispy and perfect for dunking in their extra rich, but not too sweet hot chocolate. Try the classic thin churros, or go for the thick and fluffy Madrid-style porras. If you’re not ready for chocolate in the morning, try your churros with a café con leche (espresso with steamed milk).

3. Café Comercial

Café Comercial has been serving coffee to Madrileños since 1887. It’s one of the oldest cafés in the city and was recently given a glamorous facelift. Pepe Botella, named after Napoleon’s brother who briefly reigned as the king of Spain, is a local favorite in the Dos De Mayo square. 7. La Tape
